To our valued customers, The Palmers' at Hartley Bay Marina would like to welcome you for yet another beautiful summer season here on the French. We would like to use this opportunity and this web page to update everyone on the comings and goings and to call attention to any changes made on the River and here at the Marina. The summer season of 2008 started off a great one, weather wise that is. It took couple of beautiful warm weeks in early April to finally rid us of all the ice, but now with some cold weather approaching at least we're able to enjoy some open water. For those that are eager to get up here and have their boats stored with us should try to give us at least two weeks notice of their arrival to ensure that your boat will be ready. Any canoer/campers that wish to come up and beat the bugs, we have camping permits available (check our Canoe Camping page for this years rates). Our hours for now are 8AM until 5PM seven days a week. We will return to our regular summer hours of 7AM until 9PM, the 3rd Saturday in May. Hartley bay road is in fairly good condition. There are still a few bumps, so be cautious but overall its relatively smooth. I would like to thank everyone who sent us pictures of their adventures on the French last summer. You can find them on our Photo Gallery page and we're always looking for more so keep them coming. The opening Canadian May long weekend is upon us and we're ready to take on this summer's bunch of eager local cottagers and adventurous tourists. We have returned to our regular hours of 7AM until 9PM, 7 days a week and the only change in pricing here at the Marina is that the Trailered Boat launching fee has changed to $20.00 from $15.00 last year. Hartley Bay Road is in good condition but take your time, you don't want to lose it on the loose gravel. There is no fire ban on for this weekend as of yet but the black flies are raging so come prepared with your bug gear. Water levels are up but normal for this time of year. Well that's all I can think of to note right now. If anyone has more questions that need answering before the weekend feel free to email me from the link at the bottom of this page. Now that the cold weather is behind us, the May American long weekend is looking to be a beautiful one and with the 2008 fishing season being open for a week I am able to report that Pickerel of all sizes are being caught in the French River water. The one advantage to the cold weather we had last week was that it kept the black flies at bay for at least one more week but now that we are seeing the sunshine they are back out in full force, so make sure to cover yourselves with protective bug gear. Water levels are still high so for those who must take the rapids down to the Georgian Bay, take the normal precautions for high water levels. Also, for those boaters who may not be used to this water level, take precautions to avoid rocks that may be just under the water. We will still be taking US currency at par here at the Marina. Just a reminder, that by 2009 every resident and non resident of Canada must be in possession of a Pleasure Craft Operators Card if you operate a boat that is registered or licensed in Canada, this includes our American clients. Also, if your boat is not registered in Canada but you are operating it for more than 45 consecutive days, you must have a valid Operators Card or equivalent from your state. The tests can be done here at the Marina at a fee of $50.00. That fee also includes a book to study from. Well, that about sums it up for now. Keep checking as we will be updating this page as the summer goes on. We look forward to seeing everyone soon. Sincerely, The Palmers'
